Guest Article by Lorri Munsey-Snyder, Agency Owner & Registered Representative, Farmers Insurance Agency
Hi, I’m Lorri Munsey-Snyder, wife, mother of a 15-year-old daughter, and owner of a Farmers Insurance Agency for over 30 years.
I’ve been in the insurance business for a long time and have seen many policies. Here are some areas of insurance that I think are important to think about.
1.) When was the last time you had an insurance review? What is an insurance review you ask?
If you haven’t had a review in a while, your coverages may be antiquated and you might be missing out on new discounts that you aren’t even aware of. Reach out to your agent and or broker and schedule a review.
In my agency, we reach out at every renewal via email asking you if you want to do a Farmers Friendly Review by phone. At these reviews we go over coverages, discounts, new discounts etc.
2.) Do you have an Umbrella policy? Umbrella insurance is extra Liability Insurance that extends over your Auto(s), Home, Motorcycle etc. It provides protection beyond existing limits and coverages of other policies. Umbrella insurance can provide coverage for injuries, property damage, certain lawsuits, and personal liability situations. It is very affordable and commonplace in my agency for over 3o plus years. At Farmers we have them available in value from $1 million to $10 million. You need to remember, “You don’t need to be a millionaire to be sued like one”. If you aren’t familiar with an Umbrella policy, feel free to reach out to us 425-226-6666 and I can easily explain it in layman terms or talk with your existing insurance company.
3.) Rental Car Coverage: Our agency hits hard on this coverage. Why? Because the last thing you ever
want is to have an auto claim and then have to pay for a rental car while yours is in the shop or needs to be
replaced. Rental cars have gotten very expensive, and cars are taking a longer than normal time to get repaired. Not having a rental car when you need it most could result in a poor claims experience for you. We have several offerings with Farmers, but the most loved is our K5 $50.00 per day and $1000 max available. No joke we have gotten love emails about how much clients love it.
4.) Know what you’re buying. When you get a quote for Auto and or Home insurance consider getting the current Declaration pages or Facesheets from the Agent or Customer Service Representative. Why you ask? You would be surprised how many incorrect Policies we have seen. Over the years we’ve seen home policies that the basement wasn’t added to a policy, where the wrong home had been quoted etc. It’s important to have a professional looking out for you.
5.) Try to package all your insurance together. Auto(s), Home, RV, Motorcycle, Umbrella, Life etc. Insurance is an area in which having all your eggs in one basket is the better way to go. Not only will you be getting all the discounts, but when you have a claim, it is generally easier and you won’t have to figure out what insurance company to call because you only have one.
Lastly, we sometimes hear people saying they got “grown up insurance”. Their definition might mean they now have an agent or that they got a good insurance review and upgraded their coverages with a professional. Whatever the meaning to you, make sure to spend the time to understand your coverages. “Always hope for the best, but prepare for the worst!”
